LVP vs. Laminate vs. Tile: Questions to Ask Before You Choose

A plain comparison of luxury vinyl plank, laminate and tile flooring for West Georgia homes — water, pets, subfloors, comfort and installation.

There's no best floor — there's the best floor for a room. Here are the questions that narrow it down.

Will it get wet?

  • Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) — many products resist water at the surface. Water can still get under at edges.
  • Laminate — many are water-resistant to a point, but standing water can damage some.
  • Tile — water-resistant itself; grout and what's underneath still matter.

For bathrooms and laundry rooms, check product specs carefully.

What's underneath?

Every floor needs a flat, solid, dry subfloor. Tile is the least forgiving — floor flex can crack tile and grout. Soft spots need subfloor repair first.

Pets, kids and comfort

LVP is often quieter and warmer underfoot. Tile is hard and cool, which some like in Georgia summers. Scratch resistance varies by product.

Transitions and height

New floors change height at doorways, which affects doors, trim and transitions to other rooms.
